How many Criterion's are left...

boy how times change. both of that last set were vary salvagable. hardly any rust at all.
were I know it is impossible to get the serial number of all the cars. if one just labels the one they know with the proper number then it will help sort out the rest. the only number we need is the MM number of the car. so if I can get Richards and Doug's numbers I'll have about 15 pictures of cars in there right place . then there is Danny's car. that's 7 numbers it will tie up another 4 pictures I have. now I know that the MM chapter has a collection of numbers. I'm for letting Tony work on that. lets just go with the ones we have among us.

Thanks Terry, nice shots. I'm all for Tony grabbing this Criterion project attempting to get a better handle on this. I'm here if you need anything and I won't repost the two new additions to this thread.

Go Tony...

Here are a pair of '76 Criterions. These photos were sent to me by Carl Woerner back in 1984. The silver and blue ambulance was from Quick Ambulance Service in Detroit. The second one was owned by Christian R. Holmes Hospital (location unknown), and had been purchased by Carl with 24K on it. I think this unit was used by the hospital for patient transfers.

Richard: The 5th picture down from the top of the pale blue and yellow Criterion "resting" in a CA Ag Field I believe is the one bought about a year ago by Bill Dundas from Camarillo (Ventura County CA). Although I asked when this survey first began.... I haven't received any information on it from Bill (he may not know it's history), but is friend of Golden State Chapter's Robert Shepard.... any he may know it's "roots"? MM

The Criterion Project, as I'll call it, will be as thorough of an accounting of all known Criterions as possible. I have emailed some avid professional car photographers, inviting them to share any Criterions from their collections. While I may be the one doing the majority of "research & assembly", this project benefits anyone even remotely interested in the Criterion ambulance. Any assistance is appreciated and welcomed.

As for the Holmes Hospital Criterion: As you can see, this was a special, custom-ordered car, being non-emergency, ever. Bernie DeWinter had seen this car and we had many conversations about it. In addition to the exterior being void of any emergency lighting, the interior was set up to accomodate a full-size hospital bed. There were said to be ramps that installed in order to roll the bed up into the rig and special flourescent lighting in the patient area. This car would be pretty easy to identify if ever found.

Bill's 1976 Criterion was custom ordered by San Jose Ambulance specificly to be a paramedic unit; or MICU as they were known then.

I grabbed that shot when is was on eBay about a year or so ago.

Tony, I for one will appreciate your efforts 1000% percent. I think this is something we need for the PCS. I'm working on putting together the Criterions pictures I have and giving them numbers.

A different photo of this '75 Criterion was already posted by Richard on post #26. The attached picture was also given to me by Carl Woerner in 1985. With it, he provided some interesting history. This Criterion apparently did not have a walk-thru. It originally saw service in Geistown, PA, then ended up at Conaway Coach in PA. It then went to London, OH, and then to Hinman Funeral Home in Berlin Heights, OH. Carl acquired it after that, restored it, and then it went to Campbell-Dean Funeral Home in Syracuse, NY. At that time, it was orange.

I took this shot of Lifeline's '76 Criterion in Des Moines, IA in the mid-'80's. They also had at least 2 other '75's at the time. Tony may be able to shed some light as to whether these were old Capital City units.

Some additional information to post #130. I remember this car in service for the Campbell Dean Funeral Home Which is actually in Oneida, NY, about 30 miles east of Syracuse. The car actually was not orange but remained the same red as in the posted picture. They had the car for a year or 2 and I believe the motor went around 1984. As far as I know the car was parted out and junked. An observation; it appears whoever ordered the car must have had a low garage; notice the placement of the beacons and the rear load lights. Jim Dean is a PCS member, maybe he will be able to post some further information on this car.

Got this picture from Dennis Svoboda via Paul and adding to the picture thread. This is how I would like my Criteron roof to look like. Getting close.

If everyone that owns a Criterion were to take a picture of the data plate on their car and send it to Richard, it would make the tracking process a lot easier. Also include all the details that are shown in the above PDF for a complete record...Richard could then forward the information onto Tony to add to the database that already exists...

Orange Striping

Richard and Others: The picture of the (rather tired looking) Criterion on Post #137.... looks nearly indentical to the Criterion we had from Norfolk Ambulance Service / Norfolk, Nebraska that I just sent you some info on. The striping around the back and paint scheme is indentical (that is not Capital Cities type as I had previously thought). It also had two solar-ray front tunnel lights, two CP-100's, no mechanical siren and a box on top.... just like this one. Instead of the single 184 it had an "off-beat" single large strobe light I don't recall the name of right now? Nebraska has a Garfield County too... maybe the same car? MM
