your a braver man then me. I have heard from reliable sources that the shaft bushings are valve guide sleeves. which Oldsmobile is that one off

You did something wrong then. Its common knowledge GM threw a couple extra parts on, or in, every Quadrajet just to confound shade-tree mechanics.

Off Of the 72,The float sunk so I re did it with a brass float.
