Glove box lock removal

Struggling in removing the glove box lock on a '74 Cadillac. I have followed the removal videos on YouTube for Chevrolets, but these steps don't seem to work on my '74 Cadillac. Any help much appreciated.

first do you have the key??? I don't think you can get them off with out it. other then that they are pretty much that same as any gm.I will say it takes you half a dozen passes with one of those muffler cutters to hack it out of there.

Yes for one, and no for the other. I may have to stop back at that yard to see if I can find the keys in that Eldo. Sweat heart of a '77 Eldo just got parted out for lack of a title. 74,000 mile garaged car!

You got to take the tumblers out first. For that you need the key. Then it's a hex nut that holds the latch in place. As I remember them the retainer for the tumblers is accessed by turning the key clockwise the push the tab down pull the tumblers then insert the big hex key and unscrew the latch. You end up with 3 pices in your hand.

I did get the one apart that I have the key for. I will stop back at the yard to see if I can come up with the glove box key. Fortunately, in this case, this is a yard that does not let individuals back in the yard un-escorted so you will often find keys still hanging in the ignition.

Thanks Ed!

I never got the key with the 72 Olds and the jam nut has backed off as they tend to do. no way to get it apart with out the key. that is apart in pieces you can put back togather.
