Coach plants and shops that you have visited!

Jeremy D. Ledford

PCS Volunteer Chapter President
I started a post a few years back that brought up some very interesting discussion about the coach plants that folks have visited and paid homage to over the years. Below are the ones both producing cars and the former plants and shops that I've visited over the years.

1. Dixie Coach Company. Forrest Ave. Lebanon, TN.
2. Dixie Coach Company, Inc. Maple Street. Lebanon, TN.
3. National Coach Company. Knightstown, Indiana.
4. Eagle Coach Company. Amelia (Cincinnati) Ohio.
5. Sayers & Scovill. Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.
6. Sayers & Scovill/Hess & Eisenhardt. Rossmoyne, (Cincinnati) Ohio.
7. Superior Coach Corporation, Southern Division. Kosciusko, Mississippi.
8. Accubuilt, Inc. Superior, S&S, Miller-Meteor and Eureka. Lima, Ohio.
7. Miller-Meteor Coach Company. Piqua, Ohio.
8. Meteor Coach Company. Piqua, Ohio.
9. Meteor Motor Car Co. (Tom Caserta) Piqua, Ohio.
10. A.J. Miller Coach Company/Miller-Meteor Coach Company, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Yours?

just visiting

One of our first procar experiences was a visit to Hess & Eisenhardt in Cincinnati, Ohio. I think this was in the 70s. Maybe around 74.
We have also visited Eagle Coach in Amelia, Ohio, AccuBuilt in Lima, Ohio.
The AJ Miller and Co buildings in Bellefontaine, Ohio, the Miller-Meteor factory in Piqua, Ohio, the S&S buildings in Rossmoyne and Cincinnati, Ohio. One other conversion company buildings still standing in Ohio is the Champion Co whose handy work you will see on International Travelalls from Springfield, Ohio. I pass them all the time being from Springfield. I helped build some of the Travelalls before they were converted.

Other than the Dixie Coach buildings, does anyone know what all these buildings are today? And how many of them still stand?

This may not count, but the only pro car type facility I have been to is Doug Scott's in Burbank

I myself have been to Doug's as well! Neat to see a dealership in a Cali hotel parking garage! I've also been to Ambulance and Funeral Coach Sales in Nashville which was a hangout for me while in school! I've also been to CW Coach Sales MANY MANY times of course! I've also visited Crain M-M Sales, Houston Brothers and Sheilds Southeast Sales all in Marietta Georgia as well. And also Danny Ryders lot on many times as well also in North Georgia! Muster Coach in Calhoun Kentucky is a once a year trip for me as well too!

I haven't been to as many as Jeremy, but here's my list:

1. Miller-Meteor Coach Company. Piqua, Ohio
2. Meteor Coach Company. Piqua, Ohio
3. Meteor Motor Car Co. (Tom Caserta's shop) Piqua, Ohio
4. Miller Coach Company/Miller-Meteor Coach Company, Bellefontaine, Ohio
5. DaBryan Coach, Springfield, Missouri

Didn't you visit Accubuilt or Eagle at least once?

Private tour

A few years ago I had the privilege of touring the following factories:

Krystal Enterprises - Brea, California
Federal Coach - Ft. Smith, Arkansas
National Specialty Cars - Toronto, Ontario (now located in Richmond Hill, ON)

Back in the 1970's and early 80's I used to deliver to Superior Coach in Lima 3 or 4 times a week. We carried all of their Leese-Neville stuff for everything they built.

I literally saw every vehicle they produced during those years.

Only been to Carl's place in Cincinnati many years ago. It should qualify as a factory with as much stuff he has. And I've been to the Baruzza Factory as well.

Only One

Other than Doug Scott's Facility and the Peterbilt and Caterpillar Factories..... I have only been to one limo builder (DaBryan from Springfield, MO) during the (most memorable) PCS Convention hosted by Kenneth Howe at Lebannon, MO a number of years ago now. BTW Mr. Howe did an excellent job on that one including a tour of his own immaculate facilities, manicured-pristine estate including the (police escorted) arrival of former President Truman in a very rare Dodge-Briggs Limo complete with secret service standing a every corner with earpieces!. I went to Accubuilt with my girlfriends dad to pick up a new 2005 Superior and drive it back to the coach dealer in Mason City, IA, so I got a very personal tour with Joe Bunn:thumb:
The coach was a unique color that chenged in different lighting from blue, grey, and green.

Only 3 national coach and engineering , port sanilac michigan, t.g. coach madison height's michigan, and r.s. harper custom coach fraser, michigan which i use to work for way back in the late 80's

Eagle
Accubuilt
Bennett Coach Grand Rapids, Michigan (both new and old locations.

I've been to most of the places jeremy has mentioned, in his two posts, and have also been to the "Ledford Sanctuary for Wayward Pro-cars". :hide:

I've been to a bunch of plants, old and new, not as many as Jeremy. To start with copying some from his list:

1. Eagle Coach Company. Amelia (Cincinnati) Ohio.
2. Superior Coach Corporation, Southern Division. Kosciusko, Mississippi.
3. Accubuilt, Inc. Superior, S&S, Miller-Meteor and Eureka. Lima, Ohio.
4. Miller-Meteor Coach Company. Piqua, Ohio.
5. Meteor Coach Company. Piqua, Ohio.
6. Meteor Motor Car Co. (Tom Caserta) Piqua, Ohio.
7. A.J. Miller Coach Company/Miller-Meteor Coach Company, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Then to add:
8. Cotner-Bevington, Piqua, OH (remember that C-B in the '70's moved into the M-M plant in Piqua, so anyone who's been to M-M can count this as well)
9. Springfield Equipment Co., Springfield, OH
10. Thacker Coach, Annapolis, MD (back in the day, when they were still operating)
11. Superior Coach, Lima, OH (the original plant, not the Accubuilt plant)

I've also been to several modern ambulance manufacturers:
1. Wheeled Coach/Collins, Orlando, FL
2. Road Rescue, St. Paul, MN
3. K&S Ambulance, Willow Grove, PA
4. PL Custom, Manasquan, NJ
5. Wayne, Piqua, OH (also in the M-M plant)
6. Hill & Sanders, Wheaton, MD (Ford dealer that built about 4 van ambulances for the local squad in the '70's)

OK, I guess I have been to a bunch of plants after all!

And I thought I was the only one to go to Kosciusko.
