Michigan Chapter Members at Hell, MI - Pictures

Michigan Chapter members James & Kim McDonald, Howard Schulz, Rich & Alana Koski, Tim Koski, and Dale & Betty Cole attended the annual Just Hearsin Around hearse show in Hell, MI yesterday. There was a film crew there making a documentary on Hell, MI and we will be on TV in the spring. Also, we were thrilled to be a part of making a world record - the longest procession of hearses (51 hearses). We get to be in the Guiness Book of World Records!

Here is the link to the photos of yesterday:

Thanks kim for sharing the pics , see you had the 83 Collins and the 89 Dabryan there, looks like everyone had a great time.

Hello everyone, Ive lurked on this site for a long time and truly enjoy it. I read Kims post about the Hell meet and thought it would be a great chance to see many pro cars up and personal since I live close by. I went to the meet about noon on Sat and found what I thought to be an early holloween party or goth zombie convention. I always considered pro cars to have a dignified aura about them and thought there may have been some really nice period examples of hearses and ambulances. I did not expect the show that I saw at that time. I returned home and told my G-f about the event and the record attempt and wanted her to see the characters that were down there so we returned at 430 or so and I was surprised to see that some real pro cars meaning shined, clean, original and 2 that were still in service were in attendance. I was able to speak with some owners whom were not in black top hats and had fangs or different colored contact lenses ( one for each eye ) and wearing all black costumes with a death theme being prevalent. I must say that the convoy record attempt was poorly organised as the first cars out were maintaining a proper speed but as the rest proceeded there were lapses and many went speeding, exhaust leaks and all to catch up with a traffic jam at the Dexter Pinckney road where all the cars were held up. Local law enforcement would have provided right of ways for the procession had they been requested by the (club?) I enjoyed the chance to see maybe 19 cars that their owners took pride in out of the 50 plus that I saw that day. I will get slammed for this but I just dont get the goth, dead, holloween angle about great cars that serve, served with distinction in their working lives. This is my first post on this very fine website and I just wanted to give my opinion of this event.

Welcome. Now you know why the P.C.S. has it's focus on restoration and preservation. Also why we do not allow ghoulish decorations on our show fields. I think you'll fit right in. We honor the class and dignity these coaches were designed to represent, and appreciate the fine custom coachwork that went into achieving that goal. This is a good fun group that enjoys their cars and other folks that appreciate them.

The hearse show held in Hell, MI is not a PCS event or an event endorsed by the PCS. It was a goth show. The PCS is not what you saw on Saturday. However, there are times when PCS members will attend these types of events to let a little steam off.

This is what the PCS is all about. No creep stuff here.

I am the organizer of the World Record Attempt. And no, I'm not going to slam you for your comments, but I would rather thank you for them, so that I have the opportunity to comment on them.

In regards to local law enforcement, I was in contact with the Livingston County Sheriff's department. They do NOT provide escorts for this type of event, but they did give us permission, which is greatly appreciated. I purposely set the route to go from its start at Screams, to the very next stop, 2.6 miles down the road. This gave automatically gave us the right of way, as covered under the Uniform Traffic Code.

As far as gaps and lapses, that is just the nature of what happens when you have 51 vehicles in line. As the lead vehicle, I maintained an even 15 miles per hour, and had absolutely no control over what happens 35-40 cars behind me.

Guinness also has a rule that there can not be any significant gaps in the required 2.0 mile route. This is why I positioned myself at the end of the route, at the first and only stop sign, to collect the driver's proof of participation (required by Guinness). By stopping the parade at the end, I was guarenteed of not having any gaps, as you can see from our official video.

As others commented above, this was not a PCS event. However, Just Hearse 'N Around welcomes all hearse enthusiats to join us, including working professionals, and as you yourself mentioned, two of them joined us to become part of history.

You are welcome to have low opinions of us if you like. I can tell you however that everyone in attendance enjoyed the day. Isn't that what its all about anyway?

So Mike, let me make this personal and sincere invitation to you, to join us next year, Saturday, September 15, 2012.

See you in Hell.

Thank you, Steve, for your comments. I have been attending this event for at least the last six years. James and I always have a great time.

Mike,
I understand your viewpoints and won't flame you either. However i'd like to ask you to go into the event next year with more of an open mind. After all, the event is based in "Hell, Michigan" so the show starts out with a pun, near Halloween, and is open to all hearses stock or modified.

At one point you said something that you only spoke to people who weren't wearing top hats, fangs, black attire, etc. People come from all walks of life, and just because some look different or dress different, it doesn't make them a bad person.

As for "I enjoyed the chance to see maybe 19 cars that their owners took pride in out of the 50 plus that I saw that day" I can assure you everyone who had a car there takes pride in their car, and are proud of them no matter the condition.

I'm a proud PCS member, yet all my coaches have mags & dual exhaust. That being said, i've been made to feel as welcome as any other member. Enthusiasm and pride in your cars speaks volumes about you. It's all about the love of the coaches, their history, and preserving them for all to see.

Welcome to the PCS and i'm glad you got to see that we can have fun too at a Halloween-type event. After all this is the time of year everyone wants hearses & ambulances at car shows, the rest of the year we do sometimes encounter resistence and get turned away/expelled from shows.

Welcome

Welcome to the group Mike. We were in attendance Saturday, hopefully in one of the cars you enjoyed. I too appreciate seeing pro cars restored to their original glory but I also respect that others have their own ideas about what to do with their cars. We try to attend as many functions as possible promoting pro cars. That is why we went Saturday. Even though I don't necessarily agree with the way some of the cars were decorated I do appreciate the fact that these cars have been saved from an uncertain fate by people who have taken the time to keep these cars on the road. I reiterate the fact that I believe one of the main purposes of the PCS is to save professional cars. Until someone comes up with the funds to purchase all professional cars and restore them to originality, we need to respect other pro car owners even if we don't agree with thier ideas. That is part of being "professional".

Hi Steve, Next year you might want to contact Putnam Twp for law enforcement help with right of ways or an escort. The Pinckney Police force are usually first responders to anything that happens in southern end of the twp, also they have a large Vol fire dept that love to light up their strobes. I would recommend contacting Chief of police Dennis Aseltine or Chief Bill Cook of Unadilla twp as these two twps work together mostly without LCSD coverage for the most part. I welcome your feedback on my post.

Hi Dwayne, You should check out Bakers of Milford MI, NO car has ever been turned away and has one of the biggest turnouts in the midwest.
