The Kentucky New Era reported the crash happened when the semi collided with five cars, including the hearse, during a funeral procession Monday afternoon.

that plastic and glue just doesn't hold up as will as welded steel. it looks like a amc modal dropped off the shelf

it would appear to be struck on the front of the right fender spinning the car around and catching something on the right center door. the driver compartment was never in jeopardy. but only missed the T bone by the length of the fender. air bags would not deploy with this hit. the radiator support does not appear to have mover that far out of alignment. but the plastic flew off it. any way not to make light of the incident spinning ones are alway iffy for head and neck stuff.

one does wonder if there was a escort and or is the truck ran the intersection. the article is a little lax in information.

First allow me to say 'thank you' for using caution in your comments in this thread and therefore being sensitive to the family.

This was my father's funeral. I was the third vehicle behind the hearse. There was a police escort first, and he saw the semi ahead and how fast it was going, so he drove off the road into someone's yard. He was fine. There were 3 vehicles behind him (2 preachers' vehicles and the funeral home attendant). Their cars were impacted, and the funeral home attendant may have gotten released from the hospital that day, but she had several long-term internal injuries from this wreck. The hearse was impacted as you saw in the picture, and of course the lady in front of the semi, and my sister's car directly behind the hearse was brand new and severely damaged! Behind her were my nieces and nephew (ages 10-26) driving my father's old pickup. Praise God that none of them were impacted.

I can't confirm but I believe the semi driver was probably distracted with his phone because he had time to see us coming. It's a straight road. I think by the time he saw the lady in front of him slowing down, he decided to "thread the needle" and go in between all of our cars down the center of the road instead of veering off to the right into the cow pasture. It's possible he could've hit a tree, but I'd think it wouldn't injure him or damage his truck as much as it damaged the rest of us. Also, his load was over the legal limit. Bottom line is he shouldn't have been following the lady in front of him so closely.

After everything was settled with the police and firemen, we regrouped at the funeral home and headed out again, but this time on a different route, and with TONS of escorts at every. single. turn. It was a difficult day and that made it even tougher to heal. Every day, to get to work, I drive the initial route we took, and it took a long time for the skid marks on the road to fade, and therefore took a long time to get the memory out of my mind at least on a daily basis.

Last week, I was in another funeral procession to bury my grandfather, and I held my breath all the way to the cemetary.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for allowing me to comment. God bless!

Dana, my condolences to you and your family not only on the death of your father but the circumstances you had to endear as well. Down here we never do escorts without a minimum of 3 officers and at times that's not enough.

Just as Richard has said, condolences and blessings that there appear to not have been serious injuries, that we can all be thankful for.
