mocom antennae

Would any one have any leads for 1960's motorola aerials for motrac/mocom radios. They had a semi sphere black base about 2"" diameter and a relatively fine antennae @ 8"" tall. Have watched on ebay forever without success.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Terry but I don't have a shot. They were the standard roof aerial on taxis, polce ambulance and such up here for motorola 2 way radios. Cannot believe I have not come across one.

the style would be the brand used up there. down here they went from Larson to Motorola. toss in a GE now and then. who payed any attention to who made it as long as it worked. I did get a lot off the state auction one time. if you can find a pictures we might have one. but the only black one I have is a Royce CB, base loaded. big fat coil

I am familiar with the old black base "bakelite" plastic with a wire whip and a red bead on top. Generally VHF about 17" but have not seen one in years either. The bakelite probably cracked up over the years...

The antenna you're talking about is an Antenna Specialists ASPC-201L. I have them in stock, though the mast is notably thicker than the early version. The original antenna shipped with most Motracs/early Mocoms was the Motorola TU-316 in VHF, TU-308 in UHF.

Kevin, thanks very much, bang on! I will check if they are available locally, and get back to you. These were used for over 90% of the service vehicles up here in the 60's.

Here is a photo (photo 1) of what he's wanting. This is on my 73 M-M combo and on my 72 M-M that has the black Bakelite half moon base. I think this is the one Kevin has and has supplied the part # for. The second photo is a Motorola antenna that I have that is available if needed. It has about 8 foot at least of cable and a one foot areal wire. Even comes with a re-print of instillation instructions as well! If your going to be in Flint I can put it on the truck tonight to bring with me. Both are period correct.

Thanks Jeremy for the offer. Unfortunately I will be a long way away, on call.

The one on the left is what I was looking for. They were "THE" aerial here in 60's. and I will update the ones on my cars.

The thing I never understood about those Mocom antennae systems was they worked well without any trimming at all.

My old Tow home in Calif had a completely Motorola system and as trucks were sold, traded we just drilled the back center of the roof, ran the wires and we were rolling.

When I mentioned the tuneability etc I was told they were originally installed by Motorola and then since they still performed well why spend the money?

The most problem we ever had was an occasional Mike cord would get frayed.

The second picture shows a current Motorola TAD/TAE series antenna. For some reason I can't post a drawing of the TU316 antenna supplied with most VHF & UHF Motracs.
