We had a phone call today from Shawn of Picture Car Specialists. They are looking for a 1980s hearse to rent for a movie to be shot in Brooklyn or Queens. For more information, please call Shawn at (724)972-6363.
Sorry, this is all the information I have.

Black 1980s Hearse Needed For Movie

We have a request for a black 1980s hearse for a movie shoot in NYC next week. Any coach builder, any make, but must be black. You can make $600 for the day and they will pick it up, if you bring it, they will pay more. If interested, please call Sean at 724 972 6363

Probably be easier to just buy one of those rather than rent. They can be purchased very inexpensively.

You have to remember movie folks are just that they make movies. They are not in the car business they don't want to worry about license tags vehicle ins. batteries if it runs etc. My brief movie contact with the Masterpiece was they wanted it at the appointed time for the time needed and cooperation in location etc. Paying for it was not an issue lack of hassle was. My black hearse is too new to fill the bill gotta be someone in the area with a winner.

The hearse being requested is needed for some sort of flashback scene being shot for the NBC-TV series THE BLACKLIST. A black exterior was the main requirement, aside from late 1980s cutoff on the build date. I actually thought of several member cars that might suffice since Cadillac hearses didn't change much style-wise from 1980-92, though none suitably close to the NY Metro area where filming will be taking place. I told another picture car provider "in the hunt" their best bet was probably Specialty Hearse's Long Island dealership, given all the trade-ins going through there.

a question I pondered yesterday reading this thread... do movie companies and producer's pretty much stick to "it's got to be a BLACK hearse to be in a movie or show..." ?

It's up to the director. If he/she has something in mind (like a black hearse), that's what they will get. If the car is background or minor, they will take what they can get. But if it plays some role in the scene, and the director decides on a particular "look", they will do whatever they can to get "the look" the director wants.

Steve is right my Masterpiece was used because the director had to have a hearse with a right hand opening door and one could not be found in NYC.The Masterpiece is green and they recolored it black in the film again the director said it must be black..

Thanks, just seems like for years movies have used the same old Seagraves (not that there's anything wrong with that) and the same old 90's era Caprices for police (then migrated to the Crown Victorias) and for hearses - it seems like it's GOT TO BE BLACK...
Ofcourse I suppose it has a lot to do with what movie production rental companies in Hollywood keep in stock too.

Don't forget the Furys and the Diplomats too.
