1962 Cadillac Hearse Miller Meteor Combo

1962 Cadillac Hearse
Miller Meteor Duplex Combo Hears This remarkable black over black crinkle top duplex combination coach was delivered to the Capital Hill Funeral Home in Oklahoma City , OK on August 8, 1962 by McCampbell's MM Sales in Fort Worth, TX where she spent a distinguished decade as part of their fleet until she was sold to the city of Blackwell, ND where the fire department installed a siren, speaker, and a beacon as you see in the attached photo. This photo was taken in 1980, shortly before the city sold her to private hands where she surfaced decades later to a couple in Colorado, then to a collector in Utah and finally to me. When I got it, a lot of engine work had been done. It was covered in promo decals which I got off with a lot of elbow grease and she resides in my garage today.

Looks really nice. Looks like rust is trying to come through on the top, but I imagine thats probably common, as mine is looking that way too.

I always wonder about this type of bidding. Looks like it has help from friends.:)

Hi Daniel, Bry here.

This is my auction and, no. I do not have "help from friends" placing bids on this auction. If that's what you see, it reflects your standards, not mine.

I put a lot of work into fixing up this coach, shooting the auction photos and drafting a well written and honest listing. I'm not surprised that people responded to it favorably with legitimate bids and met the reserve in six hours as it's a terrific coach. Your idle speculation with no basis in fact is completely unfounded.

If you have any questions regarding the coach or it's condition, feel free to ask me rather than make false assumptions, fair enough?

If you'd like to give me some "help from a friend", make a bid.

Cheers,

Bry

Thought that might be yours , had some bad experiences with this type of bidding. Thanks for the info and good luck on the sale.

Understood and sorry to hear that you've had bad luck in the past with ebay auctions.

The reason that I keep the bidders identities private is that years ago I had a bad experience too with an individual who ran a now defunct hearse club who had wanted a hearse that I placed on ebay and couldn't afford it. This person then took it upon themself to write to everyone that had placed a bid on my hearse claiming the same thing; that the bids were placed by friends. The auction fell through and I lost a lot of money on ebay fees. The harassment went on for years after that, even to the point of trying to derail the Peterson Auto Museum's 2005 World's Longest Hearse Procession that I organized (by writing psychotic emails to the Peterson staff) where you and I met, Dan. I'm sure it's not a stretch to imagine who it was.

So, consequently, I don't put myself in that position again but I understand your concern.

Again, glad to answer any questions about the coach that you might have.

Cheers,

Bry

I sell a lot of old radios and equipment on Ebay and had a similar but lower $$ happening on one of my sales. I had listed a radio with a starting price of $29.99 my thoughts were it would bring $125.00 or more. It had been on about half a day I came opened ebay selling and the item was at $102.50 with 15 bids. I thought say what! so I checked bidding it appeared one bidder at almost the start had bid $100.00 Then along came another who placed bids at $5.00 increments one at a time till he passed the other guys $100.00 bid. in the end the first guy ($100.00) won it for $185.00 but you can see with the bidder protected it would look funny. When I bid on Cop Cars and other Govt. stuff they always post the bidders screen name one outfit posts first and last letters of bidders name with stars for the middle but you quickly know whos who.

Did want to put a kink in your sale. Should have left my bad experience out of it. Anyone that knows you will get a straight up buying experience and a great coach. My apologizes if I have caused any heartache on the sale. :applause:

No apologies necessary at all, Dan. You and I are cool and I understand completely why you brought up the issue.

All good, man.

Many thanks, Steve! Your gracious efforts helped me to track the history of this great old coach, especially with the 1980 photo and info. I should have credited you, so my apologies.

Is the transfer from the Capitol Hill Funeral Home to Porter's Funeral Home documented? I'd love to update the ebay listing if that's correct, but won't if I can't document it via paperwork.

Again, my sincere thanks.

Cheers,

Bry

Unbelievable...

Oops--you caught me! Since I haven't documented any of the procar stories (and photos) I've shared over the past 45 years, please discount them all.

We need at least one picture of this car for posterity.... Beautiful car... I hope that it stays in the States, rather than going to some foreign land.

I'm honored, sir. I've always found this forum a great place to learn more about these great old coaches and happy and hopeful that my photos might be useful for folks down the road, too. :)
