1942 Henney Classic St. Paul Police Ambulance

Now....that's interesting...a 1942 Henney-Packard landau ambulance. Judging from the cars seen in the background (note the 1940 Hudson) when this photo was probably taken, the car couldn't have been all that old. One has to wonder if it was built by Henney as a landaulet-style ambulance or if the police department converted a landau combination car to ambulance usage. Interesting nonetheless. Thanks for posting this.

Harry W. Smith was the Henney dealer for this region at the time. Located in Minneapolis, Mr. Smith also provided ambulance and livery service. He did have some landau ambulances, so this photo doesn't surprise me; whether the car is a straight ambulance, combination, or "converted" hearse, it makes sense for a car like this to be serving in this area.

James Ambulance Service of Minneapolis continued using landau ambulances through the 1960s.
