we got forced into changing the valve cover gaskets in this 67, so as long as things are off lets paint them. we started with the air cleaner. the top was under the mouse in the hood pad. so it has the paint off an showing some rust. the lettering is good as is the rest of the housing. so I'll show you a little trick that can extend your carer in auto body by 15 min or so. change that dirt air cleaner while you at it.

now gm just dunked these things in a vat of lacquer thinned with gasoline. no primer at all. got this set of detail brushes in the $1.00 tool bucket. one is stainless steel that the one we use to knock off the loose rust and scaly paint.
then we'll rub the top with a scotch pad staying on the top only. don't go over the edge.

next after washing things off we'll run a ring of tape around the edge leaving the top loose so that it extends over the top. this is the old trick you can amaze your self with

now here is one more tip to help out. not everyone has a paper/tape rack in there shop. so it news papers to do the trick.

lay the papers out on the hood and tape one edge first. then put them were you need them. we are covering the sides and horn so we don't get over spray there

we are out of the ace rusty medal gloss black so we coat the rust and bare with this semi gloss and fallow it up with the gloss black.

go from all 4 directions and don't load it up on the edge.

when you pull the tape you won't have a tape line. imago how handy that would be spotting in a fender.
