peculiar '62 Superior

Yesterday's hearse jaunt involved lending a hand digging an old coach out. Having been sitting since the mid-'70s, owner decided it was time for his "parts car" (!) to receive cosmetics. '62 underbelly is exceedingly solid, one of the best original in this era I've seen. Minor rust in fender doglegs like most but all in all a really decent coach. Skeg moldings are going to take work, comparatively speaking. I'd been telling him for years that this isn't a parts car and think that has finally took root.

Superior may have made a ton of limo style endloaders but here is where things get interesting. Consider this proof positive how truly unique our coaches can be.

First off, it is a limo style Sovereign. No corner windows and small rear loading door glass.

Luckily we got the '62 front end high enough on rollback to load directly onto wedge without having to take more time or space up.

After securing on trailer I noticed a window had cracked open a couple inches and climbed up to close it. A rear side door window. Yep. Straight endloader with regulators and working rear compartment windows.

Only place we could find for grub knowing the next hour would be barren country driving. Last meal had been 11 hours prior. Took a skilled (or crazy) driver maneuvering a 50' trailer into a tight parking lot without clipped anything - all done in front of the watchful eye of a speed trap cop sitting in said lot. Masterfully accomplished.

When we finally stopped for evening, I checked out coach's interior more thoroughly. Owner had a blanket covering rear floor for years, using it as storage for glass mainly. Jewish floor treatment, 14 rollers including 3 wide across rear loading door sill. Note also rear side door window cranks.

Owner had acquired (long ago) from original FH that purchased new - a black FH. Not a black Jewish FH, which is another head scratcher.

So in short this is a '62 Superior Sovereign limo style endloader with working rear side windows and a Jewish floor treatment that served a black FH. Custom ordered as such or sold for a deal having been 'left over'?

Bizarre.
