Train wreck in Midland, TX. Four U.S. veterans killed!

Skip Goulet - Deceased 1945 - 2018

August 19, 1945 - July 26, 2018
About 4:30 Thursday afternoon, a parade float carrying several U.S. veterans and their wives was struck at a local crossing. A truck ahead had made it through with no problem. Reports from the scene indicate that the crossing arms were up when both of the parade floats began to cross the tracks. But as the second float started across the arms started down, but it was too late and the train was upon them already. One bystander had said that there had been a power outage just prior to the wreck which would explain why the arms were up at the time.

Two of the vets died at the scene and the other two were pronounced dead at Midland Memorial Hospital. At least 20 others, one of them critical were transported to the ER, and the critical case was airlifted to University Medical Ctr. in Lubbock.

The parade was in conjunction with the annual "Hunt for Heroes" banquet that was scheduled for Thursday evening, with a hunting trip for the vets and families was set for today near San Angelo. Both were cancelled.

The local blood bank has been flooded with donors, and the owner of Odessa's mall and TV station started a fund for survivors and families with a donation of $100,000.

Please remember these fallen warriors and their families in your prayers.
