1988 Cadillac Flower Car

What's up with the weird missing band of vinyl top? Obviously it was built that way, but even if you intended to do that, why make the back section extend 2 inches past the natural line of the door? Could there possibly be a reason it HAD to be done that way?

I don't know what it is about flower cars, but some of them just look like a group of designers said "hey, let's see how bad we can make something look and still get people to buy it!"

This one isn't that bad overall, but its like flower cars have some sort of power to draw people over to the design dark side, and it really doesn't seem like it would take all that much to design one with the same function, that actually looks like it was designed to be aesthetically pleasing.

most likly a McClain

Most likely NOT. While some people assume any OWB flower car is a McClain, in this region most were not. Not saying that this couldn't be one but..... Coach dealers such as Terry O'neal and numerous small body shops were doing this style of flower car in a fair amount of numbers in NY and Jersey. As an alternative to a full size one these were attractive to funeral homes in this area as they could be turned out fast and cheap on any used chassis "commercial" or standard. Speciality Vehichles is still doing them.
Modern Flower Car Conversions

Here's a converted '79 Coupe DeVille, with a similar roof treatment, that was seen in the Masterpiece parking area (during the Milwaukee meet, on Saturday). The was no builder identification on the car:
