Beware of this shipping company

As most of you know, I sold my 76 M-M combo on eBay about 2 weeks ago. The lady in TX that bought the car didn't know how to go about shipping it, so I gave her the number for Sancrest, whitch I used for shipping the car from Ron to me, and Danny Ryder uses them quite offtin. I also gave her the number for the lady that Richard uses, and a number for a guy in Tx that Attila knows. Well she for one reason or another, went with United Road. I sold a truck on eBay almost 2 years ago to a guy that also lived in TX, and he also used United Road. They had called me up one day and told me that they had a driver that would be there in 24hrs to pick up the truck, and no one ever showed up. Long story short, they lost there driver, and couldn't contact him, and had no idea where he was, and had to find another driver.

United Road incounter #2

Lastnight I get a email through eBay clameming to be a company in Western KY, contracted out by United road, and they would be picking the car up today, and needed to know the lingth of it. Well it didn't sound right, so I was going to contact United Road this morning and ask them about it. Well first thing this morning I get 3 voicemails saying they are from United Road and would be picing the car up today, and to call them back ASAP. Well I called the lady at United Road that I had ben comunicating with, and she said no no no, do not release the car to anyone, we do not have a driver asigned to your car. She asked me to give her the phone numbers of the people that had called me, and she would have her superviser take care of it. I haven't got a call back yet, But I'm assuming they have it under controle now. So, if you are going to be shipping a car, or know someone who might be, my advice is to NOT use United Road.

shipping a coach

My 61 M-M was hauled from Danny's in Georgia to Ohio by Sancrest. No problems. And they had the best price. I would use them again if I had to get a coach hauled. Their equipment was in excellent condition from what I saw. The driver seemed to be very concerned with doing a good job. What more could you want?

Same here Mike. It took a little longer than I wanted, ut you can even ask Ron, you couldn't have asked for a better driver, and the price was good too.

Got a phone call this afternoon, and they do now have a driver that will be picking it up on Monday. I told them that this was my second time dealing with them, and have had problems both times, and personally would not be using them for myself, or recomending them to anyone I know.

Josh, in their defense it sounds like another company somehow got enough details about this to try to undercut your transport company. I've heard of it before & a friend of mine went through something very similar... he'd sold an MGB and the buyer lived out of state. The transport company was in the process of arranging transport and he recieved calls from two other "contract haulers" saying they were in-route to pick it up. When he called his shipper they said "NO! Don't release it to anyone but who we send!" and then explained about these haulers that try to undercut to get loads.
 
learning a hard lesson about auto shippers

united road is a large company that hauls a lot of brand new cars. i don't
know if they subcontract any work,but if they do, the truck that comes to pick up your vehicle should already have a shippers manifest from united
road stating that they are hauling for united road.

as far as i know they are a reputable company. if a car carrier shows up to haul your vehicle and it does not have the name of the company you hired on it
then i would be very careful about releasing the vehicle to them
without checking with the company you originally hired!

there are a lot of what we call gypsies,who run substandard equipment
and will give you the runaround,and or damage your vehicle and not tell you.

what i can tell you after 30 plus years in the auto transport
buisness is "buyer beware"

a reputable shipper will give you a firm quote up front,and will allow
you to inspect the vehicle for damage after they unload it,and before
you pay.

no shipper should require you to pay in full up front.if they do,find someone else to haul your vehicle.
 
Josh.. Are you certain that the funds to pay for the car are good and in your bank? This is sounding more like a scam to steal the car. If you don't know who is taking the car, and where it is going, you might just be out the money and the car in the end. If you accepted a bank check, certified check, or money order, it might just be a forgery, and it takes a few months to bounce back to you. The only way to know the money is real is to get greenbacks, or have a wire transfer from one bank to another. Anything else is a kiss and a promise...
 
Sancrest

We recently bought a 69 coach out of Nevada and used Sancrest. We got two different prices for transport from Sancrest, one for an operable vehicle and the other for non. It turned out that the tornado aftermath in Missouri, had taken one of their trucks and the others were booked solid with local transport. I was handed off by Sancrest to a subcontract hauler with a flatbed trailer and my delivery, start to finish was 7 days. Very fast! The truckers name was Dave and he treated me very courteously and respectfully always calling me sir, and it was, yes sir and no sir, extremely professional a real southern gentleman! My bad experience was with Auto Relocation Specialists and they also had a second name similar to this one something like Auto relocators I would have to check paperwork for the other name. A major beware in regards to these people. I finally asked them where I was calling and they confessed they were just a broker with a convincing web site. I had so many problems with them, it would take to much to tell of all the chasing down where and what was going on with the transport they did for me. I am very happy to have gotten the vehicle at all.

Sancrest and United Road both subcontract, and Sancrest does buyer and seller inspections before payment. You don't give them a dime until there job is done.

Paul, yes the money has cleared the bank, and is ok.

After my last conversation with United Road today, here is what I figured out. The email I got lastnight is the subcontracter that will be shipping the car. The woman at United Road told me this morning that they did not have a driver in western KY that they subcontract to, and not to release the car. Then this afternoon it turns out that they do, and he will be picking the car up on Monday. As for the other calls I got this morning, they were claming to be with United Road, but I gave the woman at United Road there names and phone numbers, and they said they have no such people with there company. So the only one that was legit, was the guy in western KY that they told me was not, and then told me he was, and that he would be picking up the car on Monday. I spoke with the guy that will be picking it up on Monday, and he said this is not the first time they have done this. It sounds like after both my experiences with United Road, they need to have a group meeting, or take classes on how to comunicate with each other. I will stick with Sancrest. The por lady that bought the car bought it as a suprise for her husbands birthday, and she has ben calling me and txting me all day freaking out. I felt kind of bad for her. Oh and not to worry, the car is going to a good home, her and her husband owne a Funeral Home in TX, and will soon be PCS members.

When I made my one purchase of a hearse I had United Road give a quote and it was by far the lowest. Car arrived in fine shape four days after being picked up in Cinncy. I'd use them again.

What really happens, unless you're dealing with the one of the "Big Boys" like Reliable, Passport etc. where all of the transports are done in-house is once you're booked for transport the the details are sent out nationwide by Fax to all possible car shippers. Kinda like using a shipping broker for freight.
