On my ambulance I have two batteries ad the knob inside to turn, but both my battery cables have only one cable no return wire to recharge the battery, Should it have one or is it some other way of recharging the battery? I have good juice coming from the big alternator but no recharge.

the charge wire will be run into the switch. on 1 it will only charge that battery same on 2. on both it charges both batteries. if they are not charging check your wiring coming from the regulator. on some cars there is a bypass wire so that the clock will always run. everything else should be dead till the switch is turned on.
