Ed, is that the one i have a pic of from a freeway overpass i think i showed it to you and paul and a couple of other member's up at the micro meet last feb.

This is the one i was refering to the pic was taken during the weekend of the gr rapids michigan international meet, it was on 1-96 fwy west bound at merriman rd exit from a overpass there was 1966 Superior Cadillac gold over blk combo about 100 ft behind it. sorry for the chop off i was leaning as far as i could over the side

That is indeed a handsome vehicle but, it is a 1956 Memphian-Chrysler - not a 1955.

What a beauty! Actually, she's a 1956 Memphis/Chrysler. Memphis Coach Co. is the manufacturer while Memphian is the model name, such as a C/B Cotington or Superior Rescuer.

I understand that Memphis swallowed up Economy by this date but they were making identical cars under both names. if this one is not a B then it looks to me more like a E then a M

I love those mopar finned procars almost as much as i love those 54-58 olds car's. I would love to have one of them part of the line up sometime.
 
Sedan Ambulance 101

Many funeral home fleets from the 1920s through the 1950s had at least one seven- or eight-passenger sedan (or limousine) that did dual duty as an ambulance. Superior offered this feature as a factory option on their Pontiac limousines through the 1967 model year.

These conversions basically consisted of replacing the front bench seat with two separate seats, with the passenger side being removable; a removable curbside jump seat; and modifying the curbside "B" pillar by (a) making it removable, (b) hinging it at the top, or (c) welding it to one of the other doors.

Most of these cars were unmarked and used mostly for transfer work as well as for a family car. Some, however, were marked and/or lighted for full-time
ambulance use, such as Trout's (Ponca City, OK) 1937 Lincoln Zephyr:

Here's an extremely rare 1949 Superior/Chrysler ambulance that was advertised (as a 1946 model) for sale in Oklahoma City in 1976 for $1,000. This was a running and driving car missing only its sirenlight and stretcher. It was not where it could be pulled out the day I went to see it, so here are the best shots I could get. A similar - and possibly the same - car can be seen on Page 175 of the Superior book. Besides Fred Feiser's hearse, this is the only Superior/Chrysler I've ever seen in person:
