scored at the fair

You never know what you will find or where it will be. I scored these two
ambulance news print blocks at the Ohio State Fair today. The vendor
used them to set a print so I could see what I was getting. I would have
bought them even without the demonstration.
I know one is a 63 or 64 Cadillac. The other is up for your guess. It does
appear to be from the 1940s. You can see the front tunnel lights on the
roof. If you look close you can see the driver is in the older coach.

I think my print block finds are old as there would be no need now days
for this type of printing block. Another clue is the material they are made of.
The Cadillac is made of lead and glued to the block. The 40s coach is made of
zinc and is tacked to the block with small brads. The vendor seemed to know a good bit about his blocks. Printing memorabilia was the only thing he was selling.

Those are neat! The one is a 1941 Flxible-Buick Premier ambulance while the other is a 1963 Superior-Cadillac Royale 42" headroom ambulance. Congratulations on the find.

:yum:

Those are cool stamps. You can stamp your envelopes now before
you mail then out. ...or do people still mail envelops ? Oh well, enjoy them.

Thanks for sharing,

Hey! Ive got one of a 1970 M-M on Ebay around 2001! It's on a wood block and approx 2 each long. I always kept it but never knew where it came from, you say it's a news print?

Steve's idea

Martin,
I am inclined to agree with Steve's idea that these were probably used for advertising instead of newspaper printing. There would be no need for a newspaper to print one of these too often. Unless an ambulance service placed ads with them on a regular basis. On the other hand if you were having ink blotters or letter heads made up you would use them more often.
Whatever they were originally used for I am glad I found them. More stuff for the wife and kids to sell some day. In the meantime I get to play with them and enjoy them.
