A road trip story & photos... July 2012
Last week Digger and I headed south to meet up with 3 PCS members I am proud to call my friends.
I first meet up with John Ehmer at a storage facility he owns an hour north of Pittsburgh in a beautiful small town. He has a number of cool cars in this building. I was there to pick up a '60s 401 Buick Nailhead engine and transmission out of one of the cars that got crushed in his very unfortunate roof collapse a few years ago.
Talk about a great guy with more PCS knowledge than most members I know.
He has been a past president and is very aware of the inner workings of this great club and is dedicated to keeping it on the right track moving forward.
He had most of the work already done when we arrived. The engine/trans was disconnected from the car and hanging chained on the engine hoist.
We lifted it up and out and put it in the back of Diggers truck.
I quickly built a wooden frame with some lumber I brought with me to steady the engine and to prevent it from sliding around in the back of the pick-up.
I also strapped it in as well.
It was a hot sunny day, perfect for a road trip and to pick up the engine.
No rain the whole 3 day trip.
After loading up and talking for a while, we headed off to get a hotel for the night in Pittsburgh.
The next day we met John Ehmer, Rick Duffy and Phil Rishel at the Greentree Olive Garden. What a great group of guys !!!
Rick and Phil had both brought home some of the items I bought in Florida that I couldn't get on the plane.
THANKS TO THEM BOTH FOR HELPING ME OUT THERE !!!!!
We had a nice lunch and enjoyed each others stories and laughs.
Phil headed South, Rick and John headed East and we headed North out of Pittsburgh. It was a few hour visit that felt like a half hour. Never enough time with good friend at these visits.
We ended up staying in Erie PA and doing some shopping.
We drove home the next day in the same hot sunny summer day we had all week-end.
I have to say I really like road trips especially when going to visit with cool people along the way.
I hope to get a Ohio trip in this summer/fall as well.
I pack my 2011 Hudson PCS cooler with cold drinks, grab my PCS membership roster and head out. I don't leave home without them !
Thanks again to Phil & Rick for helping me get my goods home from Florida and John for getting dirty to get the engine/trans out for me.
Thanks to Digger too for bringing a pick-up to bring the engine home.
See you all again soon,
Darren
