Connecticut Ambulances..

I came across these two photos while doing some other photo research.

This one was labeled Middlesex (Middletown, CT) Hospital 1936

Anyone recogize the cars or coachbuilders?

Oh one more.

This one was labeled 1907 Pope-Hartford Ambulance at the City of Hartford.

Here's a later Flanagan shot:

1959 Superior
1957 M-M
1957 Superior
1950/1 Miller (photo isn't sharp enough to zero in on the trim panel below the headlights)
1951/2 ?/Pontiac (both years had the same grille; since the front flashers are bolt-ons, I'm guessing this is a converted combination)

(SL collection)

Thanks Steve! That is a great photo!

I found two more from my home town of Windsor, Connecticut.

I have great memories of the 74 Cadillac Ambulance as I was a teenager in the Police Explorers back in the early 1980s.

old ambulances

David,

The first picture is a Packard. I think mid to late 30s. I would bet Henney is the builder.
The second picture looks to me like a 36 Buick so I would guess the
builder is Flxible.
The 3rd is a mystery.

You are correct on the first one and I am not sure about the others. To narrow the year on the Packard, from looking at the front fenders and windshield it would be a '35, '36, or '37 but that is as close to the year as I can tell. These are great photos.

ambulance

That white Flanagan ambulance appears to be a 1936 Henney-Oldsmobile Progress.

The first one is definitely a Henney on Packard 120 commercial chassis -- 1935-36. - Walt

Very nice picture Steve! I guess you might say that those Flanagans really moved up, right?

Steve, it's a 50 or 51 Pontiac the 52 does not have the vertical bars coming down on the out sides or the divider on the windsheld, the easy way to tell. but the old inservice pictures yeald more hx then anythig else.

The staff photo was great

I love seeing the old uniforms. On a more serious note (compared to the coach builders, etc) I think I see Ralph Cramden in the back row and Mr. Whipple in the front????

The body looks almost identical to my 1938 Henney, however the tail lights make it earlier than 38. To bad the front of the car is blocked...

Another shot of Windsor's Cadillac.

Thanks Scott!

When I was... oh, around 13-14 yrs old, I remember seeing this car at the Ambulance station when I was in the Police Explorers. We had to get CPR certified at the Amblance station (where your photo was taken).

Back then the car didn't have the blue striping or decals added, nor the hood mounted warning lights. Those were added later to meet newer regulations I was told.

Flanagan Ambulance operated in New Haven CT from 1915 to 1983 when it was bought out. Our founder Tom Flanagan was an EMS innovator long before ambulances were associated with anything other than transportation. I am currently working on a Flanagan book that may hold surprises for many.
