federal 175 hill light

Hello i am ready to install my federal signal beacon 175 hill light 4 bulb . What size wire should i run from the battery to the switch and to the light? I got a 15amp switch and 12 g ground thanks

You should use 12 gauge wire to the light. The rating of the switch should be matched to the total amperage of the draw of the lights. Normally, the bulbs in that light will be 35 watts apiece, however, some people use higher wattage bulbs, which will result in a higher amperage draw. The fuse should be matched to the maximum amount of current that the wire is capable of handling, which with a 12 gauge wire, is 20 amps. If you are going to use a 15 switch, you should downgrade the fuse to a 15 amp. The fuse is designed to protect the switch and wiring, not the appliance.

total watts divided by volts = amps

140 divided by 12 = 11.66 amps... now, you will need to know the starting current draw of the motor and add this to the 11.66 amps. To be safe, I suggest that you use a 20 amp fuse, and a 20 amp switch.
