I'll post a pictures of this one. not a lot of people have seen one of these let alone used one. but to make it interesting what is it and how was it used. hint there were others just like it only bigger and smaller

That tool was used on the old cars that had the small threaded caps over the spindle and bearings. You would thread that tool onto the hub, after you removed the spindle cotter pin and nut, and then rotate the center stud in towards the spindle until it centered on the depression in the center of the spindle shaft. Additional tightening, would pull the hub off of the spindle. Depending on the type of vehicle you were working on, it would have had either an external brake drum or an internal brake drum.
Interesting tool that is rarely seen today.
 
Basically a puller

Sometime the right tool is what it takes to do the job properly and easily without damage to the parts being separated.

you just can't fool a old geezer. it's a hub puller for a 20s car with wooden wheels. they used the tapered axles on them. as there were no wheel studs on a wood wheel you could not use a bolt on puller. you would remove the hubcap thread the tool in place of the hub cap and push it off the axle. this rear end and front axel are out of a 29 Hudson. now that is some heavy Iron.
