Yes, it looksl ike they have done a very good job on it, but unfortunately, so far all we have gotten to see in the artist's rendition that you have posted. The actual model is due out this year, but it hasn't hit the shelves yet. I was hoping that it would have hit the stores before the international meet, but it doesn't look like it.

This is one model that I will be sure to pick up everyone that I find so that I can help anyone out here that needs one.

Actually, it looks like a '64, though the wheel covers look 65-ish. Hope I can find one when they hit the stores. I never found one of the 63/64-w/ 65+- winshield hearses that Matchbox (or was it HotWheels?) made a few years ago. I did manage to find one of the '53 Cadillac "pickups" on a trip to Wal-Mart last week though! I have 2 or 3 of the old '64 Matchbox S&S lowtops from when I was a kid. I did a red/white paint scheme on one of them, I think w/ some of my mother's nail polish! :o

They've had the same 8 - 10 cars hanging there for the past 6 months & they NEVER restock the shelf. Being a Hot Wheels collector mainly I have to score 90% of my cars at swap meets, rod runs, & ebay since noboby stocks the 1/18th scale, 1/64th collector sets, &100% Hot Wheels. Toy stores & hobby stores are a dying breed for sure! Toys-R-Us doesn't get in anything other than the standard run 1/64th cars either... at least around northern Ohio that is...

I actually scored my hearse at the local Dollar General. They have small displays at the end of a couple of isles and that is were I found mine. I also found a Matchbox "Short Bus" that screamed "buy me!", but I couldn't think of anyone to give it to!:D

I don't know, Hot Wheels seems to do it all right, at least on the ones they put out that are relatively stock looking. I'm not talking about the cartoon-type cars they put out, but the ones that are supposed to resemble real cars.

Even in the higher dollar cars Matchbox seems to disregard proportions more. I could dig up some examples, but the ones I have are packed away right now. I have some "premium" matchbox cars from a few years ago that are packaged in their own "display case" and the wheels on them are way too big. These are cars like Dodge Vipers and 69 Camaros. If you look at the same level Hot Wheels cars they look like little scale models.

That Vista Cruiser and Ambulance look like they have 20 inch wheels on them.

The pictures were found over on our other favorite forum where one of the board admins was sent some Batch L cars directly from his contact in Matchbox. Rumors are that Batch L is being seen on shelves already.
I fight a scalper in my lil town getting for the newest MB and HW cars....I buy to collect and he buys to resell on eBay.....but sooner or later we all find what we are looking for. I am looking forward to doing a few repaints on these 63's both the hearses and ambulances.

The ambulance along with a couple of others were the last 09 new models to be released. I don't expect to see the 2010 models till around December or later. The Vista Cruiser is just a recolor of the original.

Can someone tell us what the number in the upper right hand corner of the cardboard is for the new ambulance? When the models are hanging on the store hooks you can see the numbers but not the model itself. The number on the gold or purple flower car was 15 with a small 42 under that. So again what is the number on the new hearse?

Yes, you are correct, it is a bugger to read the number and name of the car with the new packaging, but unfortunately, look for this new designed card to be around for a while.

Recently located a second, on an '09 card mixed in with '10 cards - obviously out of the same box. Realize now that a custom must include a drop out of nose bleed altitude - they sit too high.

There are 2 main parts involving the difficulty finding these on the pegs:

Current packing only places one '63 per case.

Matchbox do not sell nearly as quickly as Hot Wheels. Thus, they're not stocked often.

Both of these being said, this is the time of year where turnover quickens and odds increase - so happy hunting!

Matchbox cars come 36 to a box; opposed to Hot Wheels 72. The box stampings I've seen so far containing the '63 ambulance are 997M1 and 997M2. (Shown here minus the last digit on the long sides of the box. Short sides have the full stamp.)

I have freinds and family in 2 states looking and no luck.....I have looked everywhere near me....the nearest "metropolitan" area is 45 minutes away. I found one on the shelves and remnants of the "cases". I figured the gas I was using chasing these lil damn things down and I caved in and bought 4 off ebay last week for $16 (including shipping). Just like Brendan offered, I have a couple to spare also. If anyone here needs one, please contact someone here first and see if we might have one or two to spare before going to eBay. It will for sure save you a few dollars. I have been collecting more than my fair share just so that I can share them here with PCS friends. As long as I have one saved for VP Rick Duffy (I promised him one a long time ago), I will share the rest with anyone here. As of right now, I have 4 extra here on the shelf and at least 6 more coming from a die cast friend.

The numbers may actually change from what is printed on the poster to actual production. The car may actually change number from 2009 cards to 2010 cards if MB needs to change the lineup a little also.

Yes! This one is in the first batch of 2011 Lesney Edition models just released this week... Nice looking model and the LE version with it's metal base has a heavy, quality feel to it, unlike the the plastic base regular line models. Merry Christmas Dwayne!

Gold is a Walmart exclusive color (as expected).

There are 4 per case (36 count).

Going off the assumption that they are in Z code cases (anticipated) but have yet to see a box and confirm.

Walmarts (and Targets for that matter) are near completion of spring/summer toy modular (reset). Product for the first time since pre-holidays is being restocked.

Gold ambulances (and more red) are showing up with increased frequency online. Finally found a case to relay hard numbers, excuse the cell pics (camera battery was dead):

After a failed and final attempt to find them at our local Non USA Mart I broke down tonight and bought two of the Lensey and two of the gold and white ambulances off eBay! Should have em sometime next week! Prolly will do the same and buy two of the red and white ambulances and the 57 Nationals that way too. I usually try to get two, one to keep in the package and one for display if I don't get them from somebody at the micro-meet first.

I've found 3 new 997Z cases @ Walmart in the last week - none contained any ambulances. With Hot Wheels, after a Walmart exclusive color has run its course, the 'common' color replaces it. Guess that doesn't hold true with MB (even though both are owned by Mattel).

So...when you do find this version, please post the store located at. Local Target/TRU are significantly lagging. Thanks!

The Mattel Head Office is about 20 minutes from me here in Mississauga ON.
They sell to the public at their warehouse selected items at different times.

Years ago they had the HardRock set with the hearse there for 10.00
I should have got a bunch of them. Oh well.

Went to two Wal-Marts today and, of course, didn't find a single Cadillac Ambulance in ANY livery nor did I find any of the '57 Chevrolets hearse OR ambulance.

Is it like this in everybody's Wal-Marts? They have 75-100 pegs with Hot Wheels on them and in one of the ones I went into today they had exactly 7 pegs of Matchbox. The other had 10 Matchbox pegs.

I see all of you finding them everywhere and I can't even find one. It's eBay for me all of the time and I HATE to pay shipping. I just got one of the blue hearses at the World of Wheels last weekend but I've never seen on in a retail outlet, sadly.

Sorry guys, just had to vent.

It is like this everywhere. I live in a location where I frequent 3 decent size cities (each about 45 miles from me) and usually dont find anything either.
I was in a town two hours away yesterday and just got lucky.

I talked to a Walmart employee in one town about never having what I was looking for and she told me that the same 5 or 6 people come in when they are stocking shelves and grab them as soon as they get out of the box.

this is why I wait far a bit if you not into keeping the cars in there original package you'll always find one loose on e-bay a week or so after for a reasonable price. me I got to drive 60 miles to find a wally world or toys are us. so 5 bucks shipping is a lot cheaper then searching.

John, there are members who want them but cannot find them in their area. Ed Renstrom is one. I've sent several I've bought to PCS members for FREE so they can have one.

I went to the local die cast store in Indy; we have a flea market that has a die cast store in it that's open Fri,Sat & Sun; and I bought two of the Matchbox Cadillac Ambulances. The white one and the red over white one, he didn't have any gold ones so I still need to find THAT somewhere. I paid $2.00 each instead of the $.87 that they sell for at my Wal-Mart, yeah, ok, I'll take that hit, it gives him a profit, is still reasonable and I don't have to pay shilling so I'm happy(ier).

I was at the Detroit Autorama today, where they have a fairly large diecast swap meet. Nobody had any of the newest Matchbox ambulances, red/white, gold/white, or either of the premier models. There were also no Johnny Lightning 57 Chevy hearses/ambulances. You can usually find anything diecast that has come out recently at this swap meet, if you are willing to pay the price, so to me this suggests all of these cars are going to be fairly rare going forward. I still have never seen a red/white Matchbox Cadillac ambulance in person.

I don't feel as bad missing Autorama this year now. Toy-a-rama is a high-light for me at Autorama.
I had to work both Saturday and Sunday this year making me miss Autorama
for the first time in many years. Charles filled most of my needs in Flint anyways.

With bad weather Friday and have been sick with the flu, I had to miss Friday as well. Plus driving 4 hours each way would have made it not really worth it either. Oh well, always next year.

One thing I would have liked to have seen again would have been the Green Hornets BLACK BEAUTY ! Did you get any photos of it ?

I would have like to have seen the basement as well. Cool stuff down there.

I got one photo of it. Can't get it off my camera right now. There was also a 66 Caddy ambulance dressed up as the Ghostbusters ambulance (it was with the other TV/Movie cars, almost as if it was being represented as the real car), and someone had a 65 Caddy Superior ambulance in the basement. I will post pics later today.

Went to Kroger to get a prescription filled today and while they were doing that I decided to dig thru the Hot Wheels/Matchbox 10/$10.00 bin. Lo and behold the second handful contained a white Cadillac Ambulance.....that came home with me, sadly furthur digs down into the bin produced nothing else noteworthy. You ever notice that digging in a bin of die cast cars is a little like digging in sand.

Well, I hadda open the ambulance that I mentioned in the above posting. Upon closer examination I discovered that since it was subjected to that period in the bargain bin, the blister was cracked in a couple of places so I decided to go ahead and open it. And that's cool, I have one open and one still sealed. Kinda fun to open one again, I seldom do that.

After gold ran its exclusive course at Walmart, red replaced it (2 per case of 36) there for a hot minute. I've already come across 989J cases that have no ambulance in them - so red's run may already be over. Definitely not an easy color to find. Gold proved more common (4 per case of 36).

I have had 2 friends find 4 in total over the last few months.

At a diecast convention last week, new MB sneak peeks were on display. There are two recolors upcoming on this casting:

1. Red (slightly darker than last) with clear windows, cream interior, and gold base.
2. White with green windows, white interior, gold base.

Really fuzzy pic or I'd repost. Looks like different tampos though, so probably two distinct case mixes and not one Walmart exclusive verses other retail release.

Interestingly, although the ambulance is a '12 recolor, it came in a box mixed w/ both '11 and '12 cards (left and right respectively).

I've come across the remains of 8-9 cases now on pegs and the first one on a pallet. N case mix has this ambulance - and it is only 1 per box of 36. No wonder they aren't lasting long swinging on pegs (if even making it that far)...

Also, the second '12 recolor has been turning up on eBay in last couple days. Should be able to find those shortly.

Good news! Surf Doc ambulance recolor has 3 per box of 36. These ultimately should prove easier to find than the dark red. Here's the new '12 card:

When quickly scanning pegs, I found that looking for new lemon yellow bottom right hand corner was most efficient. Inaccurate cardback didn't make it to '12 (note same UPC carrying over):

When I saw the pictures of the red one with AMBULANCE on the side I didn't like the look, but it looks a lot better in person than pictures. I have only found 2. I have found a lot of the surf ambulance, just today.
