Has anyone converted a 1950's Packard from mmanual trans to automatic? Is it even possible? Any info appreciated.

Haven't done it... but it has to be much easier than the other away around, especially if you have a parts car with all the necessary shift-steering colume linkage, etc. MM

In that era of Packard it is much more desirable to have a stick rather than an automatic. Many folks have done the switch the other way around. The stick is more trouble free and efficient.

I would prefer the stick to the automatic any day, and most Packard lovers feel the same way.

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. Bill, your wife would have fun learning to drive the three on the tree!!!!

Another thing I just thought of. The differential gears would have to be changed too, as the automatic should have a higher ratio than the standard has.

All things considered, I would learn to drive the stick shift as billions of other people have. I think it's more fun anyway!!!

Thanks guys! I am sure you are right about everything. She would enjoy driving the stick, but she does not want to learn. Anyway, that Henney Junior is already history, it sold last night! I thought it would sell quickly.
