Finally !

After 3 long years of blood sweat and tears my 1970 Superior combination is finally nearing completion. This car is the realization of a life long dream for me, and is significant for a number of reasons. In a way this car was a tribute to my Dad who drove these cars when I was growing up. The last rig he drove for the funeral home was a 70 Sovereign combo very much like this one. It is also ironic that this particular car was originally sold new from a dealer here in Warsaw. The yellow building in the background in a couple of the pictures was the Wangler Funeral Car Co. and was the the dealership that sold this car new nearly 40 years ago. My grandparents lived directly across the street, and I spent many happy hours of my youth with my nose pressed up against the glass of those dirty windows straining to get a glance of the latest offerings from Superior coach. I owe a lot to many people in this organization for their help and support in making this dream a reality. I will probably forget someone but I will take my best shot. Thank you to the guys who helped me with parts along the way, Cliff Bergum, Jeremy Ledford, John Dorgan, And Danny Ryder. Thanks guys, I sincerely appreciate it ! To Paul for never running out of patiance with my stupid questions. To Robert Shepherd for always having a source for the hard to find stuff. To my buddy Ron Devies, not only for help with parts but for your friendship and encouragement along the way ! Last and most important of all my thanks to Doug Kelley without whose kind help and assistance I never would have found this car in the first place . I'm sure I've missed somebody but it truely was not intentional.I will follow up with a second post with the rest of the pictures.

Don't be bashful about bringing it to the Miller-Meteor Reunion in Ohio this fall. The event begins with a tour of Accubuilt in Lima, which would provide the perfect opportunity to take your car back to her birthplace on Kibby Street for photography.

Thank you guys for your kind remarks, I really appreciate it ! My son and I got to spend a lot of quality time with this project and I truely appreciate the friendships I have made here in the process as well. Now I will try to answer your questions. Yea Paul, the ghostbusters thing has already started. I have already set a couple people down at work and tried to explain the difference between a 59 Miller Meteor and a 70 Superior. Between you and I , I don't think they got it ! Ron, I definately hope there will be a carnation meet somewhere in the future. Right now our goal is to have it ready for Flint in August. That was my goal for this car when I started with it. Kevin, the headliner has only one zipper. This car did not come with the bullett lights from the factory, I added them. You therefore need a boarding house reach or an arm like an oranguatang to install or remove them. Interestingly the 70 my Dad drove did have the factory bulletts. Mike, as far as the red spot goes I added that as well. In the many hours I spent gawking over at Wanglers as a kid I noticed that a lot of the trade ins that were parked outside had this configuration and I just liked it. Indiana doesn't have any steady burn regulations that I am aware of. Again, thank you so much for your interest !

Great looking car! As many have already said, glad to see that it is nearing completion. Hope to see it out and about some time this summer (Flint maybe... Hint.... Hint...).

I also have to comment on the photographs. There are some really nice shots there. Since I have been doing the calendars for the Tri-State Chapter for the past 8 years, I have seen some pictures come through my hands that just weren't the best. I really do like how you have focused on the car and how you can get a nice tight shot without much background clutter.

I have wanted to make it for a long time now and it always seems to fall on a date when something else is going on. Chuck, thank you for your kind comments. My son and I definately plan to be in Flint. Hopefully we will have "Goldie" with us if all works out. I can say from seeing Greg's car in Flint that it is a beauty! The two tone gold and black interior is very attractive. I can remember how gold & silver paint and black vinyl tops were all the rage on new cars in the late 60s/early 70s.
