I was looking at still photos from the funeral in Poland for the president and his wife...if I'm not seeing things, the first hearse is a Maserati-based product, the second is built on a Chrysler 300, of all things. Just seems like a weird product mix. The pics are up on yahoo this morning, I can't figure out how to a ttach them.

The best cropped photo they had online:

Thanks Dwayne! I see the Maserati trident in the grille on the first car, and the Chrysler headlamps are unmistakable on the 2nd...it has some sort of aftermarket grille insert though.

Maybe the grille insert in the 300 is something like the old "S&S Date Marks" to ID the coachbuilder? MM

On the Bayliff Packard coach I once onwed, the turn signals/parking lights came from a Chrysler Cordoba, the crome headlite rims from a Beetle, the tail lights from an Eldo, the front doors from a Seville, the back door from a Superior Cad, and the stop light in the door from a Ford Escort. Parts out-sourcing, anyone?

Thanks for posting those photo. I've been watching some of it on TV Polonia (going to try to catch some it broadcast from Wawel today) but I'm not quick at identifying. (Except the Chrysler products, of course.) I was an infant when JFK was assasinated, but as you can imagine, on Polish TV this "Second Katyn" has been somber non-stop coverage for days now. I'll try to find some photos, too.

Here's several more photos of the hearses... both were rear hatch models that are not well received in our world!!!

Interesting basis for a hearse. Guess you could make one out of anything if you set your mind to it...

Both hearses are manufactured by the Italian coachbuilder Intercar.

That Maserati hearse is pretty wild looking!

Jeremy, I would substitute "ughlee" for "wild," myself. Phew..... I can only imagine what the late Bernie DeWinter would have had to say on the subject. He was always critical of what he thought was a clumsy "top hat" on a coach, and that big box stuck on the back of the Maserati sedan would have elicited a choice comment, I am sure. Reminds me of Jake's reaction to Elwood picking him up at Joliet in a police car: "You don't like it"? "No, I don't like it."

I was thinking the same thing myself Jim!
