I have a white '46-49 Cad ambl, a plastic one, on my O-gauge toy train layout that is also about HO scale. But, when you are already running trains on 3-rail tubular track, winking at scale precision is no problem. Also have a few other motor vehicles stopped a x-ings for the trains: '55 Caribbean, Duesenberg J Sweep-Panel Phaeton by LeBaron, London taxi, a Tucker, and two fire rigs parked flanking the firehouse. Lionel once made a DeSoto wagon ambulance that ran on the track.

(From toy collector site)
"The "Empire Models" range by Zaugg consisted of American cars from the 1950s to the 1970s. The models are made of resin and white metal and manufactured by Tin Wizard from Germany"
This is a hard to find, kind of high end little piece. I was jazzed when I discovered that a European Company had made a model of my "lowly" coach.
I've only see two of them and was finally able to aquire one of them.
Jim,
Sounds like a great layout with some very nice vehicles. Would live to see a pic of the Desoto ambulance if you have one. What year did the Desoto ambulance represent?

My layout is a small one, but there is a lot on it. I never did get one of the Lionel Hernandos, but the model is either a '57 or '58. I think it has been reprised in recent years by the "Lionel" of 2day, but all that stuff is Asian, and I don't care for it. Nothing agin the Chinese, etc., who are just trying to make aliving. My beef is with the companies that sent all those jobs far far away. End of mini-rant. Oh, forgot to mention the 2 Hudson Hornets on the layout.

Sorry I don't have a pic of the DeSoto, but there are umpteen sites devoted to toy trains on which you could pretty certainly find a photo. Try putting something like "Lionel DeSoto" in a search thing. BTW, IIRC the last USA-produced Lionel product was way back around 1993. Today virtueally all toy train stuff comes through the West Coast ports on container ships. The train folks salivate profusely over the shipping schedules, and go off the meter when one of the monster barges actually docks in Long Beach or L.A. Even more rabid than Pro Car people these toy train types. Scary, eh?...................

...Would live to see a pic of the Desoto ambulance if you have one. What year did the Desoto ambulance represent? The Lionel DeSoto is a '58, more or less. It's defined as an "inspection car", but it does bear more than a passing resemblance to my '57 DeSoto wagon ambulance, doesn't it?

That Lionel model is more likely a rendition of a Fairmont "Hy-Rail"-equipped station wagon.
Here's a wagon fitted with Fairmont "Hy-Rail" rail wheel gear: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/lv_crewcar.jpg
