For those of you who have struggled to get a 400 pound plus patient on a #30 cot in and out of an ambulance, I think you will appreciate this ambulance & stretcher from Australia designed to handle a 1200 pounder.

I am not sure what the percentage of claims for back injuries are, but from what I see in our service, it has to be the vast majority of our compensation claims and lost days.
Devices such as those are great (we currently do not have bariatric units), but the problem of taking these folks out of the house still remains.

kind of slow to. but then get them down from the second floor of a split foyer with the door centered on the banister. I little 5 ft 100 lb gal and I took a 500 pound er out of a house on a 29 "once" we get to gather I'll tell you how. :eek:

For patients like this we use a SKED stretcher and longboards as a ramp into the back of the truck, without the cot. Probably not the safest but it works.
