Now that I'm playing with the car more and more, I'm probably going to be picking your brains about little things here and there. On the roof of our 1970 Superior Caddy you can see where the round rotator light was in the center. There are 2 spear/tear drop shaped spots where there was something. A light maybe? I can't figure it out.

I've been scouring the internet and I'm thinking a Mars 888 light? Mount looks Identical.

Could be the base for a Mars 888 light, but more likely, it was a pair of Federal CP-25 speakers. Usually, the Mars 888 lights would have been mounted much lower, since they were a "traffic clearing light".

I would say that is most likly.

I vote with Paul and ED Federal Speakers strange location though. Too prone for low tree removal.

I agree on the Federal CP25 speakers, odd location and angle though.

I ordered one on eBay and just got it and fits perfectly on the roof. I'll probably move the other to the same spot on the other side but I just need a base for it. If someone has a new like in the pic below for sale please let me know.

Should have posted here in the wanted section, and you probably would have found both that you needed, and in all probability , for less money. Also, until you hook it up, you have no way to know if it is a working unit.

Just an FYI; 95% (99%?) of these cars that had exterior speakers had them mounted on the cab, not on the upper roof. Superior used exclusive brackets for mounting these for 1965-70 models, which can be found from time to time. These brackets have been discussed extensively in other posts on this forum.

It appears that your car also had cab mounted speakers.

The current cab mounted speaker on your car is correct and original. Now all you have to do is find a mate -OR- an original Superior bracket than can be attached to any pre-'73 CP-25 speaker.

That speaker is still on it. I didn't know what was on it new on 70. I'm sure whoever got it after 72 did some changes along the way.

roof speakers could be correct also, better try to find a period photo of your rig before buying stuff. Even 5%, or 1%, which one is original? a period correct picture can tell you. City and County ambulance of hawaii ordered both, upper roof and front of the ambulance sign. You also have single speakers seen, double, angled, they were ordered how they wanted it.

John, per your earlier posting looking for a non-adjustable base, I have one that I believe to be off a CP25. There appears to be a slight difference in the casting, with mine having more rounded ends on the base. It would not be noticeable from the ground with an upper roof mount, but not sure how close to perfection you are looking for.

PM me if you have any interest.

Unfortunately there is not one single photo of this rig when we had it new. Even a few of our life members who were active when it was new do not remember any details about it.

John - I have run into this issue with all of my cars. It has been 40 years! Folks just don't remember details of things we'd take for granted in the "moment." The written history is far better and reliable. The old microfilm archives for newspapers often still exist and are best. However, there is increasing availability online.

Have you pursued newspapers.com just for starters? My subsciption is expired, otherwise I'd pull the articles I found in just 5 minutes. However, did you know your ambulance was likely involved in a serious accident in 1971? There are many more resources that you can start on the journey with.

So...... did this rig have a black roof originally??

Mine is black under the white also, I think it's the color of the fiberglass? I'll go with Nicholas, newspapers are a good source of archives.

It would be the jell coat. Some are yellow some green. It is used to seal the fiber glass and provide a smooth surface.whenyour preping ir striping off the old paint care should be taken not to cut threw it.

I forgot about your post here. I'm now looking for the adjustable mount instead. A couple older members said they believe that this car had 2 sirens on the cab roof and not on the roof of the mod. thank you though!
