The work is extremely well done and I look forward to seeing it again, but that's how I remember it looking when I was 16!

I remember for years the scaffolding doing the face had the big sign on it slow man at work. but there have been some changes as one can see from this 1986 picture and here is one from the Voks march in 2001 on top. they started on it with a mining claim in December of 1948. with the idea of it's better to ask forgiveness then permission. they were doing it on forest service land. the face is 60 feet from the chin to the forehead. to put it in prospective Rushmore was carved to the dimensions of figures 60 ft tall. if this was the government project that Rushmore turned out to be, it would be stated as completed and done. it not in a bias relief like Rushmore but begin done in the round. with 3 sides completed. they now have the third generation of family working on the carving. the vision may never come true but at least the family has work to do.

How far from Mt Rushmore is this?
