I might be mistaken but I think this is the car from Universal Florida. It was "surplussed" a few years ago and has changed hands a few times. The 350 V8 leads me to believe it was the car I brokered (with others) to Universal back in 1986 or 87. It hit eBay last year, dont know if a sale was completed or not, this is gonna be a fun one to watch.

Is that Dean's "Ghostbusters" ambulance for sale? I was watching a rerun of their show last year and a Batmobile replica only went for $150,000. I'm guessing this ambulance will fetch about $85,000.
I hope to gather a few Florida PCS members and we can make a trip to the auction held here in Palm Beach early April 2010.

Its not Deans, if I remember right his is a Ecto 2 replica. I wonder if this is one of the ones that were restored in the last couple years.

Fellow PCS member Len Langlois winters in the Scottsdale area and always attends the auction. Will have to get him to check this car out.

I have a friend here in NJ named Sal who made a Ghostbuster back in the mid Nineties. Everything he does is first class, including his Ghostbuster. His car was actually hired by a certain car customizer to represent the work he has done. That said, I believe Sal's Ghostbuster has been deemed one of the best. I have often thought that Sal's Ghostbuster would fetch $200 grand at B-J. So, not knowing the condition of Lot #1030, but I presume it to be very good, I am guessing somewhere in that $200K neighborhood. It should be interesting to watch.

Your friend's car is likely better than the movie car. I'm sure there are a lot of shortcuts the studio did to save time and money. So if both cars were for sale side by side which would sell for more, the movie car are the better built one?

By rights, the better built car, but a B-J, I think the paper trail will help Lot #1030. My guess is still $200 grand.

Tonight is the night the Ghostbusters Ambulance goes on the auction block with Barrett-Jackson. Look for lot# 1030. Looks like I got bumped. Paul sure is up early this morning and forgot there was a thread already on this. Thanks Paul for keeping me on the straight and narrow.

Paul, you should just delete this post, I have repeated myself. Paul you should just delete this post, I have repeated myself. Paul you should... what was I going to say?

Somehow, I just can't get excited about this auction.. I do know that it will establish the true value of what they are actually worth, nor do I believe that it will bring close to the $235,000 figure that one owner of a clone believes that his is worth...

Do we know about what time the Ecto (actually M-M Futura Duplex) will cross the block? Because I will stop what I'm doing to watch!

If I were to guess Jeremy, I would place it around 10 p.m. EST. It is pretty late in the auction.

I've been watching the auction every evening on SPEED channel. So far, a 1936 Wayne Chevrolet school bus drew $75,000 and a Crosley fire truck (custom creation) went for $100,000. If the GB moble truly has all documentation, it just might draw a pretty penny. There have been some great cars go through the auction, but without proper documentation, the price suffers.

I'm changing my fantasy bid to $165,000. :applause:

One of the SPEED Announcers had predicted the CROSLEY FIRE TRUCK would go fo $15-K tops. You see them For Sale out in CA once in a while in the $8 to 10-K asking range...... then you usually see them again a few months later by the original seller.

I would like to see what the ecto -1 bring's in, but you have to remember back in 2006 they sold a gmc parade of progress futurliner 1 of 12 for $4.1 million .

It is 4:00 p.m. and Lot #950 is on deck. Ecto is Lot#1030 so it is only 80 cars away.

My brother and I were at Barrett Jackson on Tuesday and saw the Ghostbusters car on display. I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking at it, as these things don't interest me in the least. However, I would describe it as in "good" condition. There was chrome tape on the window posts on the passenger side door as well as the spears leading to the tail lights. Certainly not a quality restoration.

It is about 9:40 eastern time and there are only about 5 more cars to go. They are on lot 1024 as I type this. The person that said about 10:00 is going to be very close.

Superior!!!! What tha heck man! But they did actually recognize that Cadillac built comercial chassis for professional car use.

Yeah, I had to rewind it to hear the professional car part. Jeremy said they mentioned it and I missed it. When I did play it back, I heard 'hearse' also, almost missed it, though. And they didn't say, 'hearst'!

Yes, he said that "back in the day" Cadillac actually manufactured commercial chassis for use in building professional cars like hearses. Then he went on to say that this was probably a Superior professional car to start.

that's it I'm putting my 72 in in next year. for a original DOD I should get 40,000 at least. sure beats the 3 to 5 I could expect out of e-bay. I still wounder how much shell biding is going one and if these car really sell for that money. there can't be that many stupid people out there. but let me retract that last statement. that many people with more money then brains. they made all those bad investments threw out there live were did they get there money to begin with. some one really has a scam going on the rich fokes.

I caught that to last night to ( the superior part) even though i don't own a procar, i do know the difference between a miller meteor and a superior
to a point. on certain year's, they did show the guy who bought it .

In the FWIW Dept: The Guy who bought the Crosley for $100.000 later bought the custom Chrysler Wagon for in the $180.000 range. Last year he bought the Ford Tri Motor plane and the year before bought the big GM Parade of Progress bus among others.

He owns a large commercial construction co here in the valley and all of his toys have gone into his own personal collection...not available for viewing by the public...

If for some reason it does not attach, go to Hulu.com and enter Barrett-Jackson. Not only does it have the 4 + minute auction for the Ghostbuster, it also has a link to the Crosley Fire engine that Mike mentioned.

Onward and upward!

:agree:

I once watched two guys with more money than brains fight over a blue 1970 Ford Torino with a SCJ engine. One bidder had the same car already in orange but also wanted a blue one. The other bidder had a blue 1970 Boss Mustang, and thought the Torino would be a nice match. All of the other bidders stopped around $50K, but these two fools just kept bidding. When the dust settled, the winner paid just over $100K, not including the buyer's premium. I noticed that almost immediately afterwards, the Torina prices doubled on eBay, regardless of their condition.

Back on topic though, since we could probably all spend hours explaining why we dislike B-J, so the GB Cadillac sold for $80K? What does that mean for the guy selling the quarter million dollar replica? For the $155,000 price difference, I would think you could make the real Ecto flawless, build a garage around it, and still have money left over for some gas!

Barrett-Jackson has reached the top of the Classic auction market by it's exclusive attitude marketing. Sure there's multitudes of dummies who don't really care how much they pay for whatever.

I have watched every B-J Auction since Speed started televising them and my opinion is OVERALL vehicles sell for less than their worth.

We need to remember...B-J turns down thousands of possible vehicles because theres only so much time for x number of vehicles. Sellers take a gamble that the "aura" of B-J will raise their vehicles value.

I personally would NEVER place a vehicle I wanted to sell in a No Reserve auction...I'm a Gambler...Not a Fool.

Currently watching MECUM Auto Auctions taking place in Kissimmee, FL as I type. I find their cars are more resonably priced but not as clean. So, a 70 Cuda from B&J for $235,000 or MECUM for $23,000. I have to go with MECUM but then I'm not as particular as most. Looks good and drives well, ok with me.

PS: I have seen some MECUM cars break $100,000 though and they have a reserve. :applause:
