I would just like to start this out saying great job Patrick on the meet, and it was so nice to see everyone of my friends from the pcs family. You guys are all great. Also wanted to say I was sad that I did not get a chance to say good buy to a lot of you before I left. I went home after the light show to get the cars back, so I would not have to do that on sunday,"really good thing I did that" And thank Kim McDonald for helping me do that. When I got back a lot of you guys were back to your room.

Well on sunday morning I slept in till 8:00 and then jumped out of bed to head down stairs to take a shower and get ready to have some breakfast with some of the people and spend the day at the masterpiece with others.

That is when my weekend all went bad. As I was going down the stairs my two moose of dogs, my Rottweiler brothers ran down besides me all happy I was up. Well they made my feet slip down about 4-5 steps on the edge. I tried to grab the landing, and realized that was not going to go so well.

I fell back, know it was not going to be good I tucked my head towards my chest so I would not hit my head that hard. Well I actually bounced 3ish times down the steps till I finally ended up on the first floor landing. Then insult to injury, my dogs thought it was play time and was jumping on me and giving me kisses at that time.

Kathy got them off of me and out side right away. I layed there for a bit started to get light headed, and really hurting. I started see if I could move my limbs my feet and legs moved good, my left arm yes, my right arm not so much. once I could finally get my self up with help. I realized I need to get checked out. But did not need a ambulance ride, put on some shorts. And went into the walk in clinic.

well after some x-rays we found out that I broke my Scapula, and two ribs. My arm is in a sling. I really cant move it much. And have a appointment to see the orthopedic dr tomorrow. So we will see how that all goes, really feels like I tore something in the shoulder.

So that is how my weekend ended, now im off of work the really hard way till I can get some more movement. Im right handed and that it the one that took the pounding.

I just wanted to give everyone the update, and say it was great to see you all, and I so greatfull it was not worse or happened in the beginning of the week.

With all your energy, it is going to be so hard for you to sit still until you heal. Hope you have a speedy recovery and we are all happy that it did not happen at the beginning of the week. Take care.

OUCH. Sorry to hear that! As bad as it sounds it could have been much worse, stairs are a dangerous thing we all take for granted. Its amazing how fast things in life can change.
Take it easy for a while and let it heal right!

Rocky, all I can say is, been there, done that and now I am more careful. I have logged three life time major falls so far. One just last year. Countless times going down basement stairs and not ducking low enough. Getting mad and kicking an object with steel toe boots....ouch it hurts! But you should of seen the other guy. Just kidding? Get well soon!

Sorry to hear you are out of the running for a bit. I am sure you will bounce back but don't rush it.
We will however be counting the days you are not working and paying taxes. Keep in mind, our 'uncle' needs the $$.
Hope you make an easy recovery.

you finely get over feeling dumb. for me that is the hardest part. good thing you tucked you head if you hit hard enough to brake that wing bone in your back you hit hard. that is a hard bone to brake and it takes for ever to heal.

Rocky, Man I wish you a speedy and complete recovery. I have to echo what Ed said about scapula breaks. Give it time and don't overdo even if your brain says "I can do this". You are younger than a lot of us so you should heal faster. Just let it happen. Prayers going your way.

I was really sorry to hear about your fall Rocky. I hope you heal completely and quickly. IT'S ONLY SIX MONTHS UNTIL MICRO-MEET!! I am also sorry I didn't get to see your garage. I hope I can exercise a rain-check on that one. Keep us posted on your recovery.

Having 2 large dogs (Weimaraner), I have learned to be careful on the stairs, because mine do the same thing to me on the stairs. It is going to take some time to heal, but on the bright side, we are all here rooting for you. Rest and get well..

today I had a appointment to see the orthopedic dr. He wanted to get a MRI as fast as he could. We had to get a preapproval from the insurance company before it could happen. well I got home and in about twenty five minutes, they said if I can be back in 45 min, we can get that handled.

I had to do some x-rays of my eyes first, since im always welding and grinding they are worried to make sure there ar no shaving in there before they do the MRI. Eyes were clean so game on.

Happy to say that all the tissue was still attached, and not torn. So no surgery is needed. Just the next few weeks of healing to try to get it better. have to try to do some rotations of it to keep the muscles moving. But boy it still hurts bad with the fracture of the scapula is through the socket joint.

so its looking up, thanks to everyone for you well wishes. Hope to be able to get back out in the garage and get building on my 58 in no time.

Sorry to hear about your fall, Rocky, but it could have been worse! It was good to meet you and Kathy at the meet and I'm sending my best wishes for a speedy recovery. Thinking about how good your '58 will look among all the other eye candy we saw last week should keep you motivated to let things heal properly :D .

Take a load off for a couple of weeks - you want this to heal, and not continue to give you problems in the future.

I've got a thing around here somewhere about dogs, part of which states "......I can fall down the stairs faster than you can run........"!!

I'll have to dig it up and post it so you can have a good chuckle (that ought to make your broken bones feel reeeeaaaal good). Get well soon Rocky!!!

Great seeing you before and after the fall !

Glad I wasn't there during the fall. I'm not good with things like that or seeing blood.

If anyone got to see your dogs, they would know they can bowl over anyone they wanted too. I'm sure your dogs head is bigger than mine.

LET IT HEAL PROPERLY !!!!! I can tell you from experience... it will haunt you forever if you do not let it take it's time to heal correctly the first time !!!
Not Haunt in a good way either !

Take it easy brother !

P.S. I can't believe Kathy is a year older than you ! See has the looks of a much younger lady !!! Lucky Guy !!! Keeper for sure !!! ...and plan a big trip for your 25th !!! ...and get her truck done too ! ...after you heal properly !

Just alittle up date, today was the second day that I was working back up front in the retail at my optical lab. Yesterday when I was done with work I was really sore. Today was not as bad.

Im still taking my pain pills three times a day and my ibuprofen. But working on getting rid of those also.

So happy to say slowly its getting better each day. Just really chomping at the bit to be able to hit it hard on my 58 again. But I keep telling my self to not to push it

Darren Bedford
09-10-2013, 11:16 PM
That's correct !

Don't push it !!!

Plus the snow will be flying in a couple months  so you will have to wait until next summer to drive it anyway. ;)

See ya in 10 days,

Darlene Daniels

Glad to hear that you are recovering enough to be able to do some things. I agree, don't push yourself too hard, you don't want to take two steps forward and three steps back. With everything that you are always busy with I bet its killing you not to jump in and get back in full swing. It will happen soon enough. Grab that book that you haven't had time for or catch up on a tv show and try to relax. It will help you heal faster to not over do it too soon.

John ED Renstrom

take my advice do anything you want just don't expect to do it in one day anymore and don't put your self in a spot were you might have to get out in a hurry. choose your jobs carefully. day time TV sucks.

Rocky slow and easy, things you like doing do slowly, things you would rather not do just say "kinda sore, better rest up", and as Ed said daytime TV sucks,

DEAR ROCKY: It was a true pity we did not have the pleasure of your company & Kathy's for the second day of PCS triumphs at the Milwaukee Masterpiece Concours, but I'm glad to hear you won't have to go under the knife after inadvertantly discovering the express route down the strairs. No embarrassment is warranted I assure you, having tripped over one of the cats on my own stairs at least a couple of times over years as his fur is the same color as the carpet runner.
